Jalandhar, April 18
In order to get direct trains to Delhi from Nakodar, a group of Nakodar residents led by Gaurav Jain approached the Union Railway Minister, Suresh Prabhu.
Residents of Nakodar had been asking for the direct train service to Delhi for the past 45 years.
Gaurav Jain has written a letter to Union Railway Minister in this regard.
The letter said the Nakodar region, including towns like Nurmahal, Shahkot and Malsian boast upon being NRI hub of Punjab. Apart from this, it is also considered to be an industrial hub of the Doaba region. Therefore, Nakodar sub -division deserves to have direct train service to Delhi.
Gaurav said to reach the Indira Gandhi International Airport, the NRIs face a lot of problems. They either go to Jalandhar or Ludhiana to board the superfast train.
“It is pertinent to mention here that the ‘Shatabdi’ train has been started from last year from Moga to Delhi via Ludhiana.
In fact, the railways can start the same train from Nakodar to Delhi via Ludhiana as the distance between Nakodar and Ludhiana is only 20 km, far less than distance between Moga and Ludhiana,” the letter said.
I have been pursuing the issue for the past five years. Besides approaching a number of Railway officials concerned, I have also approached the Union Minister, Pawan Kumar Bansal and Mamta Banerji,” Jain said while talking to Jalandhar Tribune.
