Gurindervir Singh of Cambridge International School, Chotti Baradari-II, Jalandhar, brought laurels to the institute by being declared as the fastest runner of the country by the School Games Federation of India (SGFI). He bagged the title in 100 m sprint at the SGFI nationals held at Pune from January 4 to January 7. Gurindervir Singh has been selected to represent the country in the World School Games to be held at Nancy, France, from June 24 to June 30. He covered the distance in 10.85 seconds. His coach Sarabjit Singh Happy appreciated the efforts that Gurindervir Singh put in to reach this landmark. Students of Cambridge School also set a record by winning various positions in the CBSE Nationals held in Vadodara from December 25 to December 30. In U-19 category, Pritpal Singh won the gold medal in 200 m race and also bagged the silver in 400 m category. Chandandeep Purewal of Cambridge International School for Girls, Jalandhar, clinched the gold in high jump in U-17 category. Gurinder Vir Singh bagged the gold in 200 m in the U-17 category. Chairman Ajay Bhatia, Deputy Chairman Deepak Bhatia, management committee executive director JK Kohli, CEO Dr Brijesh, director Nitin Kohli, managing group's chief education officer Deepa Dogra and directors of education Geeta Mahajan, Meenu Huria, Preeti Sharma and Principal Kiranjoth Dhillon congratulated the budding players.

Science conference

The faculty of sciences of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya under the guidance of Principal Dr Ajay Sareen is organising a two-day international conference on recent advances for quality enhancement in science and technology on January 16 and January 17. Rakesh Kumar Verma, IAS, secretary, Technical Education and Industrial Training, and Vice Chancellor of Panjab Technical University will be the chief guests. Prof N Sathyamurthy, Director, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Mohali, will be the guest of honour. Prof Dinithi C Peiris, department of zoology and Sri Jayewardenepura from Colombo University, Sri Lanka, will present keynote address. Various scientists from all over the world, Ahmed Fawzy Elkot, Agricultural Research Centre, Giza, Egypt; Dr Manjit Singh Kang, Kansas State University, Manhatten USA; Prashanth Suravajhala, Denmark; Surinder Kaur Dhillon, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur; Prof Satya Narain, Dilla University, Ehtiopia; Aseem Sayal, University of Texas, Austin, USA; Prof Madhu S Minhas, Director, Space Programmes, Ottawa, Canada, will address the conference. The conference will bring together eminent academicians, industry experts, budding scientists and researchers to discuss important issues and also to visualise the future of science in the current scenario. More than 150 paper presenters and 200 delegates will be attending the conference.

Swimming c'ship

Aman Ghai of the Lyallpur Khalsa College bagged one gold and three silver medals in the South Asian Swimming Championship. College governing council has rewarded him with a cash prize of Rs 31,000. Princpial Dr Gurpinder Singh Samra him on his success. Prof Jaspal Singh, HoD physical education, Prof Simranjit Singh Bains, Dean, Sports Committee, Prof Tarsem Singh and other faculty members also attended the programme.

National Cyber Olympiad

Students of HMV Collegiate Senior Secondary School, Jalandhar, participated in the 16th SOF National Cyber Olympiad. In the competition, more than 100 students of SSC-I and SSC-II participated under Principal Dr Ajay Sareen, HoD and Cyber Olympiad Coordinator Dr Sangeeta Arora, NOC in-charge Vidhu Vohra and Ramandeep Kaur. Nikita Sahi, Rupinder Kaur, Divya, Samriti, Ramandeep, Navleen Kaur won the gold medals while Priya and Kritika bagged the silver medals and Ferry and Muskan Narula bagged the bronze medals. All participants got certificate of participation. Principal Dr Ajay Sareen congratulated the students and awarded medals to the winners.

Yale students' visit

Eklavya School hosted students from the Yale School of Management. Students Oscar Benjamin, Caleb Thomson and Eunice visited the school. These students are studying the working of various types of social enterprises. Eklavya School in association with KVM (Kheti Virasat Mission) is working for promoting the sale of organic food. These products are sold on every Wednesday and Sunday. Students from the Yale School of Management interacted with farmers who had come to sell their products. They also spoke to the volunteers of the KVM to understand the working of the organisation. They were pleased to know that students of Eklavya School participated in various cultural exchange programmes and have partnership with two schools in England and Denmark. The manager of Eklavya School Sapna Bakshi thanked them for their visit.

Lohri celebrations

The staff and students of Kamla Nehru College for Women, Phagwara, celebrated Lohri on the campus. The celebrations were organised by the central association of the college. Principal Dr Kiran Walia initiated the celebrations on the occasion. A customary bonfire was lit up at the college stadium. Speaking on the occasion, she congratulated the staff and students and talked about the need for celebrating such festivals to make sure that students remain connected to their roots and should preserve their rich culture. She said the society should celebrate Lohri for boys and girls with the same fervour.

Lohri was celebrated at SD Public Senior Secondary School, Sangal Sohal- Variana, Kapurthala Road, Jalandhar with great fervour and gaiety. The celebration was marked with bonfire and traditional songs of Lohri. Music, dance, groundnuts and sweets were among the few things which were enjoyed by students and the staf. Students participated in various activities like giddha and singing traditional songs. Manju Arora, principal of the school extended her greetings to students and staff present on the occasion. 

Cambridge International School, Chotti Baradari- II, Jalandhar celebrated Lohri- the harvest festival of the year with full gusto. The celebration began with a special assembly wherein students enlightened everyone about the significance of Lohri. Students danced on the beats of Punjabi songs. Students and teachers gathered near the bonfire offering prayers. Gajak, jaggery and peanuts were offered to the sacred bonfire and also distributed among the students. Songs in praise of "DulhaBhatti" were sung by students. Chairman of the school Ajay Bhatia, Deputy Chairman Deepak Bhatia, Chairman Learning Wings JK Kohli, Chief Education Officer Learning Wings Deepa Dogra , Director Principal Kiranjoth Dhillon, Directors of Education Learning Wings Geeta Mahajan, Meenu Huria, Preeti Sharma congratulated all and dwelled on the importance of the festival.

 'Lohri Sadra Di' was celebrated on the premises of Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar. The Student Welfare Association of the college stepped forward to celebrate the traditional festival of Lohri and to aware youngsters about our customs. A huge bonfire was set up in the lawn of the college which is believed to burn away evils of the society. Principal Dr Sucharita congratulated all teachers and students.
