National police band contest concludes at Phillaur

JALANDHAR: The CRPF won the overall trophy in the 18th All India Police Band Competition which concluded here today at the Punjab Police Academy, Phillaur.

The CRPF won the overall trophy in the 18th All India Police Band Competition which concluded here today at the Punjab Police Academy, Phillaur. The event was conducted in collaboration with All India Sports Control Board, in which Suresh Arora, Director General, Punjab Police was the chief guest.

In brass band competition, gold medal was won by the Rajasthan police and the BSF jointly while the silver medal by CRPF and bronze medal by Maharashtra and Punjab Police jointly. In pipe band competition, the gold medal went to CRPF and Maharastra Police jointly, silver medal was won by Punjab Police and bronze medal was bagged by Jammu and Kashmir police. In bugler calls competition category, CRPF won the gold medal, Punjab Police won the silver medal while the bronze medal was won by Jammu and Kashmir Police. The best conductor medal was won by West Bengal in brass band and Maharastra in pipe band. Suresh Arora presented medals to the winners in different categories in the competition.

Addressing the gathering, the DGP said it was a matter of great pride to host the 18th All India Police Band Competition in which police teams from 17 states and seven central polices forces participated. He said that police band was an important part of ceremonial performance in the police which could be further strengthened by holding professional skills competitions like All India Police Band Competition. Kuldeep Singh, ADGP Training, who is also the chairman of the 18th All India Police Band Competition welcomed the chief guest.

Anita Punj, IG and organising secretary of the event said the Competition was being organised every year since 2000. This year 24 teams participated from across the country. The closing ceremony was followed by a cultural programme performed by the trainees of the academy. Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma, IG Arpit Shukla, SSP Jalandhar Rural Gurpreet Singh Bhullar were present on the occasion.
