Now, govt schools to tell parents about menace

JALANDHAR: Widening the ambit of their campaign against drugs in the city, the district police have now issued instructions to the DEO to tell students and their parents about the perils of drug abuse.

Jalandhar, March 26

Widening the ambit of their campaign against drugs in the city, the district police have now issued instructions to the DEO to tell students and their parents about the perils of drug abuse. Two numbers have also been released for schools — 95929-18005 (urban) and 78373-40018 (rural) — so that anyone with information on peddlers might contact the police. While students shall be apprised of the drug menace during the morning assemblies, during the next parent-teacher meet scheduled in government schools, it has been decided that special help desks should be set up to apprise students and parents of the drug menace.

While the recent arrests with regard to drug seizures in the district also include a school teacher who was nabbed yesterday, the arrest underlines the fact that students and educational institutes are also not immune from threats posed by rampant drug peddling among youths in the district.

The DEO has written to all schools, telling them to apprise students of the bad effects of drugs in the morning assemblies. On March 31-3-2017, on the date of the parents’ meeting, schools have also been asked to put up help desks to spread awareness among parents and students regarding drug abuse.

The science teachers of schools have been asked to cooperate with the Jagriti Club heads in the matter.

Meanwhile, the police have also released two numbers to schools so that anyone with information on suppliers and/or peddlers can inform the police about them. The numbers are 95929-18005 (urban) and 78373-40018 (rural). DEO Harinder Pal said, “We shall apprise parents from the start of the session on April 1. Regular seminars, contests and other activities making students aware about drug abuse shall also be held. There is no doubt that some students are also at the receiving end due to bad atmosphere in their homes and parents indulging in drug abuse.— TNS
