Jalandhar, March 29

The Jalandhar rural police have claimed to cracked a murder case today. An NRI woman from Canada, Surinder Kaur, was murdered on March 21 at her native Koja village near Bhogpur. An accused has been arrested in this regard. Meanwhile, two other accused are still at large in the case.

The arrested accused has been identified as Manjinder Singh, alias Chintu (20), a resident of the same village.

Addressing mediapersons here today, SSP, Jalandhar (Rural) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the accused was arrested on Tuesday. During the investigation, the accused revealed that he executed the murder plot in connivance with Amandeep Singh, alias Veeru (31), and Manveer Singh (29), both residents of Bhathe village in Hoshiarpur district.

He said Veeru and Manveer were still at large.

The SSP said the motive behind the murder was robbery.

“The accused got to know that the woman had a plenty of gold jewellery with her. Being an Amritdhari Sikh, she used to wear a sword that was gold-plated. The accused had looted all jewellery she had,” the SSP said.

“Chintu is Dubai returned and is now unemployed. Veeru and Manveer are already wanted in several cases, including robbery,” the SSP added.

The deceased along with her husband Kirpal Singh, who is a paralysis patient, had come to visit their village in February. Other members of the family have been settled in Canada.
