Jalandhar, October 16

The first meeting-cum-training camp of the organic farmers' club is going to be in Ludhiana tmorrow where the members will have discussions on problems they face in pursuing their work. The agenda for the meeting is to make the farmers aware about the club and its activities.

It is for the first time that a club — Punjab Agriculture University (PAU) Organic Farmers' Club — dedicated to organic farming, has been formed at the PAU.

Farmers, who are into organic farming where no chemicals and pesticides are used, said it was important that a common platform be provided to the farmers involved in organic farming so that their issues and problems get addressed.

A core member of the club, NS Dhoor, who is from Hoshiarpur and is the finance secretary of the club, said the agenda for the first meeting is to enroll more and more farmers.

He said farmers circulate messages through WhatsApp to let the community know about the new club.

Seven members are part of the governing body of the club. Buta Singh from Ferozepur is the president while the director of extension education, PAU, will guide the activities of the club. The PAU Vice-Chancellor is its chief patron. A school of organic farming was formed three months ago to provide information and guidance to the members on issues related to agriculture and its subsidiary occupations. — TNS
