Jalandhar, January 16

Making a unique effort to motivate the voters to cast their votes on February 4 for the Punjab Assembly elections, the district election authorities have engaged postmen for the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) campaign to send appeal letters to every household in the district to inspire the voters to use their franchise.

To begin this special campaign, District Election Officer Kamal Kishor Yadav today flagged off a group rally comprising 50 postmen from the Main Post Office, Jalandhar.

The DEO revealed that these postmen will start handing over appeal letters from today to motivate the voters to use their franchise on February 4, the day of polling, so as to ensure maximum participation.

“Initially, postmen serving in areas falling under the Municipal Corporation, Jalandhar, will distribute these appeals to maximum number of households and from tomorrow onwards, postmen serving in rural areas will perform the same task so as to disseminate the message to motivate the voters to use their voting rights on merit during the ensuing assembly elections,” the DEO added.

Yadav revealed that the appeal letter has a message to make the voters aware of the importance of their voting rights so that the maximum participation can be ensured. Besides, the aim of this special campaign is to encourage the voters to cast their votes without any greed or influence, said the DEO.

He also informed that to make the residents aware in the districts, the same appeal is published on the rear of the passbooks being issued to the new account holders with the postal department.
