Rs 1.3 lakh penalty by PSPCL

Jalandhar: The Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) today conducted raids on shops under the Rama Mandi bridge and found that domestic connections were being used for commercial purposes.The cantonment division officer, including SDO Jandu Singha Amarpreet Singh, led a team of 15 members in the raids. Irregularities in 11 connections were found, including three cases of theft. Eight cases of irregularities such as unauthorised extension in load too were found. Ravinder Singh, Additional SE, Cantonment Division, said a total amount of Rs 1.31 lakh was realised as penalty for the above 11 cases. 

First flight from Adampur 

Jalandhar: The district administration and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) have begun making preparations for the proposed take-off of the first flight from the Adampur airport on September 26. A meeting in this regard was held yesterday by Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma wherein procedures for granting power, sewage and water connections were initiated. The administration was to acquire 40 acres of land, of which possession on 36 acres has come to it. TNS

Jewellery snatched

Phagwara: Two unidentified motorcycle-borne persons snatched earrings of a woman, Ranjit Kaur, a resident of Garhshankar, when she was coming to Phagwara with her husband Amrik Singh on a bike on Friday. The complainant told the police that the incident took place near Kamla Nehru College. The police have registered a case under Section 379B (1) of the IPC against unknown persons. OC

Generator catches fire

Phagwara: A large-sized generator installed at a branch of the Union Bank of India caught fire in Boparai village on Thursday. A sparking from power lines of a transformer was said to be the cause of the fire which was doused by fire tenders after a long effort. OC

2 booked in property dispute

Phagwara: On a complaint on behalf of a Canada-based NRI, Bhagh Singh, lodged by Sukhpal Singh of Chachoki village, the police have registered a case under Section 448 and 506 of the IPC against villagers Karanjit Singh and Kuljit Singh on the charges of forcibly occupying the house by locking it from outside. The accused are still at large. OC
