Jalandhar, December 8

Activists of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) held a dharna at Chandigarh Chowk in Nawanshahr from 11 am to 6 pm today. The protesters said the policies of the Congress-led state government in the state were “wrong” and the action taken against SAD candidates filing nominations at Ferozepur was “unjustified”.

They said the Congress had resorted to arm-twisting tactics, “evident from the action initiated against SAD candidates at various places.” They said Congress’ poll promises were yet to be fulfilled.

It may be recalled that SAD activists were reportedly attacked at Mallanwala in Ferozepur on Thursday. The party accused the Congress of attack. Also an attempt to murder case against Akali leaders was filed. The case was later withdrawn.
