A shop was burgled near the Sugar Mill Chowk on Sunday night.



A shop was burgled near the Sugar Mill Chowk on Sunday night. Shop owner Lovelesh Kumar told the police that burglars entered the shop after breaking the shutter and decamped with one LED and cash worth Rs 28,000. The police have registered a case.

Mobile snatched

Some unidentified robbers snatched a mobile phone from a youth, Karan Kanojia, near the railway station on Sunday night. He was returning home. The police have registered a case.

Woman consumes poison

A married woman committed suicide by consuming poison at her-in-laws house in Todarpur village on Sunday night. Balbir Chand, father of the deceased, Veena, told the police that his daughter was married to Gurdip Chand six years back, but she was being tortured physically and mentally by her-in-laws to fulfill their increasing demands of dowry. The Mehatiana Police have registered a case against Gurdip Chand. No arrest has been made till so far.

Drug peddler held

The police have arrested a drug peddler, Surinderpal alias Shinda of Jagpalpur village and recovered 25 gm of smack from his possession on Monday. Kapurthala SSP Alka Meena said the accused was nabbed at a checkpost near Jagpaulpur village. His motorcycle was also impounded.—OC
