Two dead, 11 injured in head-on collision of buses

JALANDHAR: Two persons were killed and 11 injured in a head-on collision between two buses at Khattar Kalan in Nawanshahr district last night.

Two persons were killed and 11 injured in a head-on collision between two buses at Khattar Kalan in Nawanshahr district last night.

The collision took place between a private bus which was going to Phagwara and a PUNBUS which was heading to Jalandhar. The private bus driver was trying to overtake a tractor-trailer loaded with sugarcane when the driver lost control over the vehicle and hit the PUNBUS coming from the opposite side.

While both drivers were seriously injured and died on their way to hospital, 11 passengers sustained injuries and were admitted to various hospitals. The deceased were identified as Palwinder Singh, a resident of Jalalabad, and Santokh Singh, a resident of Nawanshahr.

According to the police, while the private bus was carrying around 10 passengers, PUNBUS was having around 50 passengers at the time of the mishap. The police have registered a case of negligence driving against the private bus operator under Sections 279, 304-A, 337, 338 and 427 of the IPC.
