Phagwara, May 20
Two girls were killed on the spot while seven persons sustained injuries in a collision between a truck and a Jeep here last night.
The deceased were identified as Kiran (12) and Pooja (9) of Fatehgarh Sahib village. The jeep occupants were going to pay their obeisance at Dera Beas and had taken a brief halt at the branch of Dera Beas to take rest.
The accident took place when the Jeep driver took a U-turn to proceed towards Beas when the truck hit them.
The injured — Usha Rani, Seema, Gurmit, Santokh Singh, Lakhi and Jaipreet and Seema — were admitted to the local Civil Hospital.
The truck driver managed to escape from the accident site, leaving his truck behind. The police have registered a case under Section 279/331/338/304 of the IPC against the driver of both vehicles. Phagwara Member of Legislative Assembly Som Parkash and former minister Joginder Singh Maan visited the hospital to meet the injured.
