All wholesale markets in the city to remain close in the coming days as the market association in contact with dealers collectively scheduled the days to observe the summer vacation. While business transactions will impair freely in other retail markets that comprise Shekhan Bazaar, Rainak Bazaar and other markets.

Model town market president Rohan Sehgal said: “All other shops, excluding mobile shops, in the market will remain open, mobile dealers in a meeting that was organised a few days ago decided the dates and took the decision to close the shops on June 22, 23 and 24.”

The dealers along with their families had planned to go for outing. Hence, this collective decision would be beneficial to all dealers, he added.

Phagwara Gate market that has around 450 to 500 shops, including electronic stores, all shops will remain closed on June 22, 23, 24 and 25. Amit Sehgal, member, Market Association, said: “Streets of Phagwara Gate will observe complete blackout as no shops will remain open. Once in a year during summer vacation, we plan for collective holidays for the dealers as it gives time to the shop owners to enjoy with their families.”

Dilkusha Market to remain closed on June 22, 23, 24, and 25, while Peer Bodla Bazaar will have no business transactions on June 26, 27, 28 and 29. The whole market will remain closed.

Residents will face no problem as retail markets will remain open. It serves little inconvenience but on the other hand it is necessary for the shop owners to spend some time with their families, said Butta Singh Sachdeva, president, Cloth Association, Jalandhar.
