Woman doctor among three more held

JALANDHAR: Expanding the extent of investigation in the child trafficking racket in which six persons, including two doctors, were nabbed by the police a few days ago, three more accused women, including a doctor, were nabbed by the police today.

Expanding the extent of investigation in the child trafficking racket in which six persons, including two doctors, were nabbed by the police a few days ago, three more accused women, including a doctor, were nabbed by the police today.

The arrested persons were identified as Dr Reena of Jaswant Hospital near Dakoha, Manpreet Kaur of Sirhind city of Fatehgarh Sahib and Jyoti of Nakodar. They were also produced in a local court, which remanded them to two-day police custody.

As per the police, the accused had sold a 10-day-old baby. The boy was reportedly sold to an Uttrakhand-based couple for Rs 4.5 lakh. For recovering the child, the police had sought a three-day remand from the court to conduct a raid in Uttrakhand, but two days’ remand was sanctioned by the court.

ADCP II AS Power said the police would interrogate the accused to know the exact whereabouts of the child sold by them to the Uttrakhand-based couple. On July 15, the police had arrested doctors Vishal Bhanot (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) of Urban Estate Phase 2 and Ramandeep Kaur (Bachelor of Electropathy Medicine and Surgery) of Patti Math Wali village in Nawanshahr, who runs City ART Services Private Limited on Cool Road, where they deal in egg reproduction technology and sperm donation.

Other four accused nabbed were Harjinder Kaur, alias Pooja, of Sangat Singh Nagar, Seema, alias Seeta, of Bajir Bhullar village in Beas, Asha, alias Sheela, and her husband Brij Mohan, a resident of Madhuban Colony here, Jyoti of Nakodar and Reena of Dakoha. — TNS
