Wood carving camp

Fourth day of wood carving camp at the Apeejay College of Fine Arts witnessed the transcendence of creative skills of the artists like Basudeb Biswas and Narender Singh. The eminent artist Basudeb Biswas's artistic works depicted the beauty of female persona. The unblemished, straight and long necks of females stand as a beacon of inspiration in his works. His works are recognised widely by many distinguished institutions like Rabindra Bhawan, New Delhi, Punjab Lalit Kala Akademi, AIFACS, New Delhi, and the list goes on. Biswas is the only artist of Punjab whose works are selected nine times by Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, for national-level exhibitions. In this workshop, he carved an image of Hellenic beauty of female persona whose neck and face were inspirited by peacock and squirrel, respectively. Another illustrious participant of this workshop was Narinder Singh who has carved 87 works till date out of which 36 were related to Ek Onkar, a prominent symbol of Sikhism. His works were received with great applause and received many glorious awards like Life Time Achievement Award by Indian Academy of Fine Arts, Amritsar and Artist of the Year Award in Delhi International Film Festival, Silver Plaque Award etc. He said in this workshop he was working on abstract forms which were inspired by the concepts of continuity and infinity. Principal Dr Sucharita applauded the talents of the participants.

Save water campaign

Chandrayaan VIPNET Club of department of physics organised a save water campaign with theme 'Save Water-Each Drop Is Precious'. Various events were organised for the students of SSC I & II (Science stream). Principal Dr Ajay Sareen, Dr Madhu Prashar, Principal, DAV Samaj College for Women, Ferozpur, and head of physics department Renuka Bhatti inaugurated the programme along with Physics faculty members. Dr Ajay Sareen pressed the dire need of saving water and motivated the students to save each drop of water. A pledge for saving water was taken by faculty and students. In poster-cum-slogan writing competition, Isha, Parul, Deepika and Gurleen Kaur got first, second, third and appreciation prize, respectively. In 'My Opinion' contest Rajni, Jaspreet, Deeksha and Simran got first, second, third and appreciation award, respectively. On this occasion, Rakesh Uppal, Kiranjit, Jyoti Kaul, Saloni, Geeta Sakhuja, Shilpa, Kiran  and other science faculty members also participated.—TNS
