At BD Arya Girls College, Jalandhar Cantt, a one-week workshop on web designing was organised by the post graduate department of computer science and application. Harish Kumar, an expert from Excendo—The Knowledge Academy, gave tips on web designing. Students created their own websites. Principal Dr Sarita Verma appreciated the efforts of the department.

Kamaljit shines in exam

At Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar, Kamaljit Kaur, a student of the post graduate diploma in financial services was placed 1st in the semester-I merit list declared recently by Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar. She scored 253 marks out of 300. The principal, Prof Atima Sharma Dwivedi, congratulated Kamaljit and her parents. She complimented the faculty of the post graduate department of commerce for being excellent mentors and felicitators for their students.

Essay writing

HMV Collegiate School organised an essay writing competition in collaboration with the Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad, as per the directions of principal Dr Ajay Sareen. The main aim of the Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarathi Parishad was to tell students about the life of great people. Under this objective, an essay writing competition on the 350th birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh was organised. Around 40 students of the school participated in the competition. Head of the punjabi department, Kawaljit Kaur, encouraged students to participate in such competitions.

Students excel in exam

Students of BVoc semester-I, (contemporary forms of dance) of Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar, brought laurels to the institution by excelling in university exam. Peeyush Gulati of BVoc semester-I secured 315 marks out of 400 and got placed in the university merit list. Bhuvan Rai got 309 marks and Davinder Singh secured 304 marks out of 400. Aakriti secured 277 marks out of 400.Students credited their success to the conducive atmosphere, motivation of the principal and guidance of the faculty.Principal Dr Sucharita Sharma congratulated the winners and motivated them to work with the same zeal and persistence in the upcoming exams.

Sports day extravaganza

CT Public School organised a sports day extravaganza on their campus.Nearly 800 students participated in the event. The programme commenced with a welcome song by students of Class II. Parminder Kaur Channi,co-chairperson, CT Group of Institutions, Tanika Singh and Suman Rana, principal, CT Public School, were present on the occasion. Jasmine House was declared the best house in sports on the basis of their performance throughout the year in different sports activities beating Lotus, Rose and Marigold houses. Students displayed a wide array of vibrant and exuberant dances, songs, yoga and drills and mesmerised the audience. Parents and teachers replenished their lives with childhood activity by tuning in with their children and participating in tug-of-war, matka race, sack race, lemon race, long jump,100m race and other events. Parminder Kaur Channi, co-chairperson, CT Group of Institutions, congratulated the winners.

Inter-college workshop

School of Information Technology at KCL-IMT organised an inter-college workshop on PHP (Hypertext Preprocessor Language). The workshop was primarily aimed at enhancing technical learning skills of MCA and BCA students and also to inculcate basic website development skills among the participating students of various colleges and institutes. The technical session was conducted by industry expert Sanjeev Kumar, CEO - Zeal Infosoft. He imparted theoretical and practical knowledge to students about the PHP language which is a widely-used, open source scripting language used for scripts that are executed on the server. A large number of students and faculty members from various colleges and institutes attended the session and got hands on experience for developing websites. The workshop was inaugurated by the Director (Academic Affairs) Sukhbir Singh Chatha, Director (KCL-IMT) Dr S K Sood, Dean (Computer Sciences) Dr Sanjay Bhargava, HOD (IT) Prof Kamal Nain Sharma and other dignitaries. Sukhbir Singh Chatha congratulated the faculty members and students of the School of Information Technology. Certificates were also distributed to all participants. A vote of thanks was given by Dr Sanjay Bhargava. —TNS
