National Institute of Technology: The National Institute of Technology celebrated the third International Yoga Day by organising yoga, pranayama and meditation sessions from 6-7 am on Wednesday.



National Institute of Technology: The National Institute of Technology celebrated the third International Yoga Day by organising yoga, pranayama and meditation sessions from 6-7 am on Wednesday. Raman Wadhawa, senior faculty, Art of Living Foundation, Bengaluru, conducted the yoga programme, as per the AYUSH protocol. The session started with a prayer followed by warm-up exercises. The faculty discussed the significance of yoga and its role in living a happy, healthy and stress-free life. The asanas were followed by ‘kapaal bhati’ and ‘nadi shodhan pranayama’. Dr Lalit Awasthi, director, NITJ, shared the importance of practising yoga for maintaining good health. Dr BS Kaith, Dean, Students Welfare, stressed the need of yoga for living a stress-free life and wellness of all. Dr S Bajpai, coordinator, Yoga and Meditation Club, convened the programme. The deans, faculty, staff, students, campus residents of the NIT, Jalandhar, and volunteers of the AOL, Jalandhar, and the Kapurthala chapter attended the programme.  

DAV University: Brimming with energy, staff, students and people from adjoining villages gathered at DAV University on Wednesday to mark the third International Day of Yoga. Although pre-dawn showers played a bit of a spoilsport, they enjoyed stretching an extra muscle in various yogic postures. Dr AK Paul, vice-chancellor of the university led the celebrations. Other dignitaries who participated in the celebrations included Rajan Gupta, executive director; Ajay Kumar Goswami, member, DAV CMC; Dr Rekha Kalia Bhardwaj, registrar; Dr Jasbir Rishi, dean, academics; Dr Yeshbeer Singh, director, sports; and Rajesh Kumar, former sarpanch of Sarmastpur village. The celebrations were organised under the aegis of the Department of Physical Education and Sports. Later, a refreshment was also provided to the participants. tns

MLU DAV College: Members of MLU DAV College, Phagwara, organised a yoga camp to celebrate the International Yoga Day on its premises. The chief aim was to support, strengthen and popularise the yoga tradition among the staff and students. Under the expert guidance of Yoga Acharya Madan Mohan, a large of number of members of the local organising committee, the principal, teachers and students participated in it with enthusiasm. Simple asanas were presented to be followed by the congregation. The Principal said, “The yoga should be a permanent habit with everyone”. It is, she emphasised, an emblem of rainbow balance in human life: physical, emotional, spiritual and intellectual. She thanked the members of the committee, staff, especially Rajinder Kumar (Superintendent) for making all necessary arrangements. oc

Ramgarhia College of Education: The Ramgarhia College of Education celebrated the International Yoga Day in the NSS unit of the college. To mark the occasion, NSS volunteers organised a yoga camp in the college. During this camp, Neha Sharma gave practical training of various yoga asanas to the prospective teachers. The yoga training session was followed by an interaction session with the expert. Principal Dr Surinder Jit Kaur said practising yoga was essential for teachers and students for their concentration in teaching and learning process. Manpreet Kaur Bhogal, president and chairperson, Ramgarhia Educational Council said the college would continue to organise such camps in the prospect. TNS

Kamla Nehru College for Women: Students and staff of Kamla Nehru College for Women, Phagwara, celebrated the International Yoga Day at Lord Mahavir Jain Model School on Wednesday morning. The students of NCC wings of the college led by their in-charge Prof Jaideep Inder Kaur and NSS in-charge Dr Gurpreet Kaur participated in the event. Admiral Rajinder Mehta of 8PBN Battalion, Phagwara, was the chief guest at the event. He encouraged students to make yoga an integral part of their lives. Principal of Lord Mahavir Jain Model School, Nirkesh Sharma conducted the event. College Principal Dr Kiran Walia talked about the importance and benefits of yoga to students. TNS

PCM SD College for Women: International Yoga Day was celebrated in PCM SD College for Women. Principal Dr Kiran Arora, staff and students of the college practised various yogic exercises enthusiastically. Principal Dr Kiran Arora said yogic exercises helps in relieving the body of all the toxins and also make the body fit, fine and perfectly healthy. Pranayama helps in removing negative thoughts and thereby lighten the burden of chattering mind. TNS

Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya: The International Day of Yoga was celebrated at Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya on Wednesday under the guidance of Padmashree Dr Punam Suri, president, DAVCMC, New Delhi. Principal Dr Ajay Sareen said regular yoga practice leads to better physical, mental and spiritual health of a person. Yoga guru Pawan Kumar and the college yoga team demonstrated different asanas. Principal Dr Ajay Sareen performed asanas along with the teaching and non-teaching staff and students of the college. On this occasion, Dr Anjana Bhatia, Programme Officer, NSS encouraged students to adopt yoga on a daily basis. Amarjit Khanna, office superintendent also motivated the students. TNS

Kanya Maha Vidyalaya: KMV celebrated the International Yoga Day wherein a programme was organised by the NSS unit and the department of political science in which Krishnan Dhawan, Manohar, Mamta and Binny from Yog Peeth Sansthan participated as guest speakers. Almost 70 students of the college participated in the programme enthusiastically and learnt various activities and asanas of yoga. The guest speakers enlightened students about the importance and benefits of different forms and asanas of yoga. Principal Prof Atima Sharma Dwivedi also motivated the students to adopt yoga in their lives. TNS

Jalandhar: Hema, a student of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya secured the first position in the college by scoring 1,690 marks in BSc IT (semester VI), the result of which was declared by Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. Principal Dr Ajay Sareen said Rupinder Kaur secured the second position in the college by securing 1,654 marks and Sharanjit Kaur got the third position by getting 1,648 marks. He congratulated the students, their parents and the Head of the department of computer science, Dr Sangeeta Arora. She encouraged the students to work hard. TNS
