A youth on a motorcycle died in the Civil Hospital here after he met with an accident today.

IPS officer Harish Dayama, posted as ASP in Phagwara, came to the aid of the accident victim near a naka on the eve of an Independence Day function.

As the officer was going from the Hadiabad side towards the Nakodar road at 8.15 pm, he saw the biker lying on the road after having met with an accident. “There were people around who said his bike had bumped into an animal which he could not spot in the dark. He was lying in a pool of blood. With the help of my gunmen, we turned him and saw that he was breathing,” he said, sharing the entire sequence of events.

“Immediately, everyone swung into action. Calls were made to the PCR, police station, 108 ambulance and even his family. Since he was bleeding a lot, we chose not to wait and instead, took him in my vehicle,” said the ASP.

“Since his family had also reached the hospital, we returned after having a word with the Civil Hospital authorities. They described him as very critical and were planning to shift him to another hospital. I returned home with a prayer on lips for his well-being,” said the officer.

But perhaps, the victim was not that lucky. My intervention only helped him see his family before he left this world. I came back realising how important it is to wear a helmet, said Harish Dayama.
