Following sporadic cases reported from Gurdaspur where people were fooled in the name of Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao scheme, the Centre has issued directions to make the masses aware in the districts of Punjab that the scheme has no provision for individual cash transfer component by the Government of India, said Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Aggarwal.
The DC said miscreants were fooling gullible people by saying that Rs 2 lakh would be given to girls under the Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao scheme whereas there is no such cash provision under the scheme.
“The Central scheme is running in 20 districts of the state. The main aim of the scheme is to improve the birth rate of girl child and make sure that girls get good education and sense of security. However, no money is given to girls in the mode of cash or through banks under the scheme,” said Aggarwal.
Aggarwal appealed to people to be aware of frauds who were selling and filling unauthorised forms. “The Punjab Government has directed the police to strictly deal with such activities. The scheme is running successfully in the district under the surveillance of District Programme Office. People can seek information regarding this scheme on landline number (0161-2505000) of this office,” said Aggarwal.
