A shock wave swept a nearby Manki village when a young girl, who was married to an NRI, and was divorced by her husband recently, committed suicide by shooting herself with a revolver.

The deceased was identified as Gagandeep Kaur (26), a resident of the Manki village. She also left a suicide note against an NRI, and two women, all residents of the Manki village.

Acting on the suicide note, Samrala police registered a case under Section 306 in this regard against the three alleged accused.

As per information of Gagandeep’s family she was residing in Kolkata and had returned to the village three years ago. Her marriage was solemnised with Sarabjit Singh, a resident of America, two years ago. After some time of their marriage a resident of the Manki village, who also stays in America, started harassing Gagandeep and demanded Rs 5 lakh from her. The accused threatened the deceased that he would say something wrong about her character if she failed to give him money.

When the girl did not give him money, the accused contacted her husband and made him suspicious about her character. Later, the husband divorced her.

After divorce Gagandeep was living under mental tension. She shot herself with .38 bore revolver of her father at 4 am today. After her death the Samrala police was informed. In a suicide note recovered from the spot by the police the deceased held Gurinder Singh, alias Toti, his mother Gurmeet Kaur and his grandmother Baljinder Kaur responsible for her death.

When contacted, the Samrala SHO, Sanjay Kumar, said a case was registered under Section 306 against NRI Gurinder Singh and two women in this connection.

The SHO said a panel of doctors would conduct a post mortem of the deceased after which the body would be handed over to her guardians.

The case

Gagandeep Kaur was married to an NRI two years ago. She was divorced by her husband recently. She held three persons, including two women, responsible for the extreme step in the suicide note left behind by her on the spot.
