Ludhiana, August 11

Nodal Centre for Faculty Development, Medical Council of India, at Christian Medical College organised the first convocation for those enrolled in the Advance Course in Medical Education here today.

VP Mishra, Chairman, Academic Committee, MCI, was the chief guest and Dr Abraham G Thomas, Director, CMC, was the guest of honour.

In all, 29 faculty members were given certificates by VP Mishra.

Abraham G Thomas informed the audience about the role played by the CMC in the faculty development for the past 50 years. Programme faculty — Dr Dinesh Badyal, Dr Jugesh Chhatwal, Dr Gagandeep Kwatra, Dr Monika Sharma, Dr Bharti Uppal, Dr Sheena Singh and Dr Aroma Oberoi — were present.

Mishra underlined the importance of good teaching practices. He said a competency-based curriculum was going to be implemented in the country and the teachers trained through this programme would be the agents to ensure the change in the way medical students were currently taught and examined.

Advanced Course in Medical Education was a faculty development programme initiated by the Medical Council of India and is delivered through 10 Nodal Centres in the country. Christian Medical College, Ludhiana, was pioneering in training the faculty of other nodal centres in 2014.

Each nodal centre enrolls 25 teachers from a group of 40 to 50 colleges allocated to it. The participants undergo two contact sessions, six months apart, and two spells of online learning of six months each. Tejinder Singh, acting Principal, Christian Medical College, is the National Convener of the programme.
