3 test positive for swine flu, 10 suspected cases reported

Ludhiana: Three more patients have tested positive for swine flu. Besides, 10 fresh cases of suspected swine flu have also been reported in the district. “The samples of 10 patients of suspected swine flu have been sent to a laboratory for testing. Three more patients tested positive for swine flu today,” said Dr Ramesh, Epidemiologist. Meanwhile, water samples of nine schools have failed purity test. A total of 25 samples were collected from government schools across the district, of which nine failed the test. The reports of two samples is awaited. “Information regarding the failed samples has been given to the Deputy Commissioner and the District Education Officers, Primary and Secondary,” said Dr Ramesh. Cyclist hit by speeding car, dies; Haryana man booked 

Mandi Ahmedgarh: A cyclist was run over and killed by a speeding car near here on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Jarnail Singh of Dehlon village. The police have registered a case under Section 304 A, 279 and 427 against the car driver, Sunil Kumar of Patran, Haryana. Police sources said Jarnail was going to Rurka village on his cycle in the morning. A speeding car coming from the Malerkotla side collided with his cycle. A profusely bleeding Jarnail was shifted to a hospital at Dehlon where he succumbed to injuries. The police have impounded the car but the drive is yet to be arrested. OC

Church glass doors smashed

Ludhiana: Some unknown persons reportedly smashed glass doors of the Joseph Catholic Church in Rasulpur village. Church priest Babu Karma stated to the police that he had gone to Majhita to meet his family on August 6. When he returned on August 8, he found all glass doors of the church broken. The police registered a case against unknown persons in this connection. The police said a probe was on to inquire if miscreants had stolen anything from the church or they committed the crime for other reasons.

Four held for gambling

Officials of the police division No. 1 nabbed four persons on the charge of gambling. They were identified as Rupinder Singh of Koocha Anayat, Harsimran Singh of Heiran, Ramesh Kumar of Haibowal Kalan and Satish Kumar of Nim Wala Chowk. TNS
