Ludhiana, June 25

Entrance examination for the admission to the Senior Secondary Schools for Meritorious Students was held today. The entrance examination for was held for the second time, after the test was introduced to give admission to brilliant students.

Students from government schools apart from a couple of other schools scoring more than 80 per cent were eligible for taking the test.

This year around 388 students applied for the test and 376 students took the test today. According to sources, the number of students, this year around 655 students scored above 80 per cent and. Nearly, 58 per cent of the eligible students had registered for the examination, whereas last year, 540 students appeared, around 72 per cent of the eligible students took the test.

Last year, there were two examination centres, but owing to the lesser number of students, only one examination centre was made at Government Senior Secondary School for Boys, at Jawahar Nagar. Around 70 per cent of the students who took the test were girls.

This year, there was a separate arragement for parents and relatives of students. The District Education Officer, Dr Charanjit Singh, said parents and relatives often have to face problem as they have to stand outside awaiting for their children outside the examination centre premises. But this time, there was a special arrangement for parents and relatives at Government Senior Secondary School for Girls near the examination centre.

The students who took the entrance test said the test was relatively easier. There were 150 questions on Maths, Science and English. “The test was easy and I attempted all the questions. I hope I would get admission to non-medical stream in Ludhiana,” said Ravneet Kaur who had come to take the test from Moga.

“As all the students are saying the test was easier, the merit would going to go higher and it’s going to be tough competition,” said Manvir Kaur from Dholan village.
