4 held with 278 liquor cases

Ludhiana: The city police nabbed four bootleggers and recovered 278 cases of liquor at separate places today.



Ludhiana: The city police nabbed four bootleggers and recovered 278 cases of liquor at separate places today. In a statement the police said acting on a tip off, the Anti-Narcotic Cell of the Ludhiana police laid nakas at Kohara Chowk, Chandigarh Chowk, Kila Mohalla Chowk and on GT Road, Sahnewal. Vehicles, including Innova, Swift and an auto-rickshaw, were stopped for checking at respective nakas. During search of the vehicles 278 liquor cases were recovered by the police. Those arrested were identified as Jagwant Singh, alias Jagga, a resident of Jugiana village (Sahnewal), Vijay Kumar, a resident of Sahnewal, Sumit Mattu, a resident of Salem Tabri, and Rajinder Singh, alias Raju, a resident of Daroli village (Sadar). The police said the accused were on their way to deliver consignment of liquor. 

Man booked for raping niece 

A 17-year-old girl was raped by her mother’s step brother. The accused has been identified as Tony Kumar, a resident of the Inderpuri Tajpur road. The complainant, a resident of Charan Nagar, stated to the police that the accused was a step brother of her mother. He used to visit victim’s house whenever her mother went to work. He made repeated physical relationship with her. The police said the accused was yet to be arrested and raids were on to nab him.

60-yr-old booked for rape 

The Focal Point police have booked a 60-year-old man for raping a woman. The complainant, a resident of Baba Jeevan Nagar, stated to the police that on July 18, she was alone in her quarter when the accused, who lives next door, entered her room and forcibly made sexual relationship with her. The police said raids were on to nab the accused. TNS
