9-yr-old murder mystery solved; three arrested

KHANNA: With the arrest of three persons, the Khanna police claimed to have solved a nine-year-old blind murder case of 62-year-old Sohan Singh.

With the arrest of three persons, the Khanna police claimed to have solved a nine-year-old blind murder case of 62-year-old Sohan Singh.

The accused have been identified as Sukhwinder Singh alias Sukha, Shah Nawaz alias Billi and Paramjit Kaur, all residents of Jarg village. They are in the age group of 28 to 30. Paramjit Kaur was victim’s daughter-in-law.

At a press conference, SSP, Khanna, NS Mahal said one Mohan Singh of Jarg village told the police that his brother Sohan Singh, who used to work with him at a saw mill, was found murdered in his room on May 28, 2008.

The complainant said on the day of the incident, his bother went to his house after completing his work and on the next day, when he went to his room, he found him dead. His feet were chopped off and deep injury marks were also witnessed on his neck. On this, the police had registered a case of murder under relevant sections against unidentified persons.

The SSP said after a tip-off, the police arrested the three accused today, who revealed the murder details. He said Paramjit Kaur had an illicit relation with one Shah Nawaz, who used to visit her house frequently. Deceased Sohan Singh used to raise objection on this. One day, Paramjit hatched a conspiracy to kill him with the help of Shah Nawaz and Sukhwinder Singh, who runs a tea shop at the village bus stand. The trio murdered Sohan Singh when he was sleeping in his room with sharp-edged weapons.

The SSP said a special team was constituted, including CIA in charge Baljinder Singh, SHO Payal Karamjit Singh and other police officials who cracked the case. He said those arrested will be presented in court tomorrow and their police remand would be sought.

DSP Khanna JS Cheema, DSP (H) Vikas Sabharwal and other police officials were also present.

The case
