A summer vacation in Himachal Pradesh is the most preferred option of residents in the city. Being nearer, it takes less time to travel to most tourist destinations in Himachal Pradesh (HP). The state tops the list of Ludhianvis when it comes to planning holidays.

But, this time many people are being forced to alter their plans because most hotels at popular tourist destinations in HP are full to the brim. Now, residents are planning to explore little places in the hill state.

Gone are the days when people use to go to destination and then hunt for hotel rooms. Today, tourists prefer to plan their stay well in advance. They book their hotel rooms to make their stay comfortable.

A city resident Raminder said her family was planning a trip to Mcleodganj, but they did not have booking for any hotel room. “Last year, we went to Mussorie without any bookings and had to compromise on our stay. This time we thought to book a room in advance. But, I think we are late again.”

She said, “We are planning to go this weekend and have been searching for rooms since the last week. All the Himachal Pradesh Tourist Development Corporation (HPTDC) and private hotels in Dharamshala, Mcleodganj and Palampur are booked. Not even a single room is available.”

“I was very excited to visit the abode of Dalai Lama, but we had to cancel our trip because of no bookings. Now, we have planned to go to Patni Top. One of our relatives has made arrangements for our stay there,” she added.

Another disappointed tourist from the city, Naveent Kaur said, “We have been trying to make arrangements for our stay at one of the tourist destination in Himachal for more than a week, but our efforts have borne no fruit. We have checked room bookings in Shimla, Chail, Kufri, Dharamshala and Kasauli, but all hotels have a full occupancy. I think we are late for the trip.”

“After searching for rooms in many tourist destinations we have thought of going to Mussorie, but there also no room is available. Seems we have to cancel our plan. We need to sit at home, switch on the AC and watch a movie,” said Navneet laughingly.

Meanwhile, there are still others who never quit. “After failing to book any room at popular destinations in Himachal, we have finally managed to get a place in Leh and Ladhak. I am excited for my trip and wish to spend some good relaxing time in the hills,” said Sukhjit, another tourist from the city.

Then there is a tribe of explorers. “Initially we had planned trekking upto Triund, but after reading reports of huge rush at the place we changed our mind. Instead, we have decided to go towards Reckong Peo, Kaza and Lahul and Spiti Valley. We are going without bookings because these places are not regularly visited by tourists. Hope we will have some really good time,” said another city resident.
