LUDHIANA: With an aim to provide food to all, workers of the Congress with the help of the local MLA, Rakesh Pandey, have started a mobile van, which provides food to the needy.

With an aim to provide food to all, workers of the Congress with the help of the local MLA, Rakesh Pandey, have started a mobile van, which provides food to the needy. The van makes round of various parts of the city and sells food to at the meager sum of Rs 10.

“The van has been started by the Congress workers with an aim to provide food to all the needy. The vehicle roams in different part of the city with main target being labour colonies and industrial areas so that nobody remains hungry. Food is provided at Rs 10 per thali. There are different food options every day. Seasonal vegetables, daal, rice and chapattis are included in the plate,” said Pandey.

“We are also surveying areas and plan to start more such mobile vans in the coming future. I and party workers contribute for the kitchen. Some volunteers give raw material free of cost for preparing food,” he added.

One of the workers said, “We try to cover maximum areas during the day. The van starts to make rounds at 12 pm and is on the road till 3 pm. It also halts at some places and after the crowd vanishes it moves to another place.”

Jeevan Parkash, a migrant labourer, near Salem Tabri, said the van was a blessing for them as they could buy food at nominal cost. “We don’t even get any raw vegetable in Rs 10 and they provide us full meal. The van comes here almost every day. We are thankful to the people concerned for providing us meals,” he said.
