AAP leaders protest cases against farmers

AAP leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira flayed the registration of cases against farmers in the state for burning paddy stubble here today.

He and other leaders, under Sarbans Singh Manki, burned the paddy stubble near Maharaja Palace in Samrala as a mark of the protest. Khaira said he would raise the issue in the state Assembly as farmers were reeling under debt and the registration of cases would further burden them.

He said though the NGT had directed the governments concerned to provide machinery to remove paddy straw, the state government was only harassing farmers.

Meanwhile, Samrala SDM Amit Bamby said they had challaned farmers for burning stubble. The SDM said he had asked the police to register cases against AAP leaders.
