In a press conference today, DCP (Investigation) Gagan Ajit Singh along ADCP (Crime) Satnam Singh and ACP (Crime) Maninder Bedi said the arrested accused had no criminal background. They entered the crime world after getting hooked to drugs.

The accused were nabbed when they were travelling on the snatched vehicle from Chandigarh to Ludhiana. They were cornered near Uchi Mangli village. One of the accused Manpreet managed to give a slip to the police.

Manpreet was also facing heinous crime and drug cases and wanted by the police of various districts, the DCP added. He said the Verna car, which was used in the crime, was owned by accused Avninder. Even the licenced .32 bore revolver used in the crime belonged to Avninder, he said.

“The accused had snatched the car with a motive to commit some other crime. We are interrogating the accused to find out the exact reason. It can also be possible that the accused have already used the hijacked vehicle in some crime. Only further investigation can reveal the same,” said the DCP.
