Celebrate unity day, schools told

LUDHIANA: In order to celebrate National Unity Day, Central Government and the CBSE has directed the schools to celebrate ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ programme, for promoting greater mutual understanding between people of diverse cultures in different states of the country.

In order to celebrate National Unity Day, Central Government and the CBSE has directed the schools to celebrate ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ programme, for promoting greater mutual understanding between people of diverse cultures in different states of the country.

For this purpose, it has been suggested by the board that programmes might be organised in the schools for at least two days, on October 30 and 31. Some of the programmes related to music, drama, cuisine, language, history, tourism of the state on the theme of national integration might be organised.

It is mentioned that the objective of the programme is to celebrate the unity in diversity of the country and to showcase the rich heritage, culture, customs and traditions of the states for enabling people to understand and appreciate the diversity in the country.

The ‘key themes’ suggested to celebrate were different cultural units across varied geographies, languages , diverse cuisine, music, dance, theatre, movies and films, handicrafts, sports, literature, festivals, painting and sculpture.

For the purpose of the celebrations, different states have been ‘paired’ with one another and Punjab has been paired with Andhra Pradesh. The celebrations here are supposed to showcase the culture and traditions of Andhra Pradesh , according to the directions.

Not just the CBSE schools, even government schools have been directed to celebrate the National Unity Day on October 31.

Speaking about it, DP Guleria, Director, Ludhiana Schools Sahodaya Complex and Principal BCM School, Sector 32, said they have already made the preparations to showcase to the students the culture and traditions of the paired state, that is Andhra Pradesh. He said that the dance of the state would be showcased in the school in addition to tell the students about the famous personalities from the state.

To promote understanding between states
