Ludhiana, October 15

Congress leader Sunil Jakhar today won the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha seat with a huge margin of 1,93,219 votes. The polling for the seat was held on October 11 following demise of the BJP leader and sitting MP from Gurdaspur, Vinod Khanna. Jakhar’s victory was celebrated by Congress leaders, partymen and volunteers by distributing sweets.

Elated over winning the Gurdaspur seat, MP Ravneet Singh Bittu today said it was a historical win with a huge margin, which gave an indication that the SAD-BJP and AAP were not wanted by the people in Punjab.

He said defeat of the SAD-BJP and AAP was earlier witnessed after the Vidhan Sabha elections. After watching working of the present government in the last six months, the masses in state proved that they wanted the Congress in Punjab, he added.

He said Congress was committed for the overall development and welfare of people in the state.

The general secretary of the Congress in Punjab, Krishan Kumar Bawa, distributed sweets and celebrated Jakhar’s victory at the Circuit House. He said it was evident that countrymen were fed-up with moves like demonetisation and the GST. Supporting Congress was its proof, he added. Bawa said today also people remembered policies initiated by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Former vice-chairman, Punjab Pradesh Congress Local Bodies Cell, Gursimran Singh Mand, celebrated Jakhar’s victory at Bhagat Singh Nagar, Pakhowal Road. He distributed sweets among the public and Congress workers. He said the Congress government in Punjab, led by Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, had given relief to the public in the state by taking pro-people decisions in the first seven months.

The SC wing of the Congress also celebrated victory of Jakhar at Mata Rani Chowk. The president of the Congress Sewa Dal, Nirmal Kaira, also celebrated the victory today.
