The probe into the recovery of two bodies from the Sidhwan Canal on Thursday night is yet to see any light of the day. The police have been struggling to get clue from the CCTV cameras.
Notably, the body of 28-year-old Manjot Singh, dry cleaner’s son of New Model Town, was recovered from Sidhwan Canal on Thursday and the postmortem report also confirmed that the boy died due to strangulation and some injuries on the face.
Similarly, the police also recovered the body of a 2-year-old girl from the canal on the same night. The body was swollen and was seemingly lying in the canal for past several days. The girl was wearing a t-shirt with black bracelet on her wrist; she was yet to be identified.
The cause of death was known in the case of Manjot, but in the 2-year-old girl’s case, the cause of death was yet to be ascertained. Station House Officer, PAU police station, Brij Mohan said the police had been collecting the details of close friends and other known persons of the deceased and their help would be sought to get clue about those involved in his murder.
Additional DCP Surendra Lamba said the CCTV footages of the area or the possible route chosen by Manjot on May 15 when he left home, were being scanned.
“It is confirmed that strangulation was the cause of death. We are now exploring various other angles to reach out to the accused. His phone call details are also being scanned for the purpose,” the ADCP said.
SHO Division No 5 Vinod Kumar said in the girl’s case, the postmortem was yet to be conducted and the exact cause of her death could be ascertained only after that. “We have sent the images of the girl to all police stations in the neighbouring districts to match the same with missing children. So far, we are unable to get any vital clue in the case,” the SHO said.
