Kundan Vidya Mandir (KVM), Civil Lines, routed Shamrock Public School by 97 runs to advance into the knock-out phase of the Punjab Schools Zonal (PAU Zone) Cricket Tournament (U-19). Thanks to fine batting by Shubham Dyal (53) and Vaibhav Kalra (43) with an equally valuable contribution with the ball by Shauraya Verma, Sehaj Beri and Arjun Puri, which helped KVM sudue their opponent.
The tournament was held at Government Senior Secondary School, Punjab Agricultural University campus ground, here today.
Batting first, after winning the toss, KVM amassed huge total of 162 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the stipulated 15 overs. Besides, Shubham Dyal and Vaibhav Kalra, other notable contributors were Arjun Puri (24), Sehaj Beri (19) and Tanishq Gangwar (7).
For Shamrock Public School, Raghav claimed two wickets for 19 runs while Karman chipped in with one victim for 13 runs and Yakshit grabbed one wicket for 27 runs.
Target set by KVM turned out to be an uphill task as Shamrock Public School’s reply culminated at 65 runs in the penultimate over of the match. Except for Simar, Ishaan and Sahil, who scored 12, 13 and 13 runs, respectively, no other batsman could wage semblance of resistence against KVM bowlers.
For the winners, Shauraya captured three wickets for 12 runs, Sehaj Beri and Arjun Puri got two wickets each while Anmol got rid of one batsman.
