Criminal wanted in 3 cases arrested

The police have arrested a criminal wanted in three cases. Commissioner of Police (CP) RN Dhoke said the accused, Sukhpreet Singh, alias Sukha Badewalia, was wanted in three cases. As many as 18 cases are already registered against the accused, which include two related to murder and nine attempt to murder.

The accused was caught on the Hambran road. He tried to turn back after noticing the police, but was surrounded and arrested by policemen present on the spot yesterday.

“We were making serious efforts to catch him for the past two weeks. Several raids were conducted to nab him and after two weeks of chase, we succeeded in arresting Sukhpreet,” Dhoke said.

A .32 bore pistol, four live cartridges and a Swift Dzire car was recovered from possession of the accused. An FIR was registered against the accused at the PAU police post under the Arms Act against the accused.

“We have not come across any wide network of the accused so far,” said the CP. “But during the course of interrogation, we will file FIR against anyone, who gave him shelter,” he added.

“We will also find out sources of finance of the accused and take action against them. Causes and elements that turn such persons into gangsters and the persons who support them, will be looked into,” Dhoke said.

“Maybe some people use them for extortion or there might be other factors, which force such persons to take to crime. If involvement of any such persons is found, then FIR will be registered and action will be taken against them,” he added.

Sukhpreet murdered two boys Deepu and Bhola and thrown their bodies in Sidhwan in 2005.  He shot at Amandeep Asa with the intention to murder him in Basant Vihar Dugri apart from attempting to murder an NRI in Model Town in 2012. He also opened fire in the South City bridge area and at Magnet Resort in separate cases in 2013. He tried to run over police personnel on Hambran Road in 2014. Earlier this year, he tried to kill a person identified as Kala in Bhai Himmat Singh Nagar. The accused along with his accomplices has also illegally occupied several properties of the people after threatening them.
