Cyclist crushed to death under truck

LUDHIANA: A cyclist was crushed to death under a rashly driven truck near the Dholewal overbridge this morning.

A cyclist was crushed to death under a rashly driven truck near the Dholewal overbridge this morning.

The deceased has been identified as Ram Krishan, a resident of the 33-foot road area. The truck driver, who had fled the spot, was later caught by the police. The police said the deceased, who worked in a factory, was going to his workplace on his cycle when the truck ran him over. He died on the spot.

Sources said passersby tried to catch the truck driver but he escaped. However, he was later nabbed by the police.

Eyewitnesses said the police reached the spot an hour after the incident. However, Tajpur police post in charge Iqbal Singh said he reached the spot on time and chased the driver.

The body was handed over to the deceased’s family after a post-mortem examination. A case under Section 304 A of the IPC has been registered.
