Dalits burn effigy of UP government

LUDHIANA: The Babasaheb Dalit Force burnt effigy of the Uttar Pradesh (UP) government and its Chief Minister near Clock Tower today to protest poor treatment of those belonging to lower castes.

Ludhiana, May 20

The Babasaheb Dalit Force burnt effigy of the Uttar Pradesh (UP) government and its Chief Minister near Clock Tower today to protest poor treatment of those belonging to lower castes.

The force president, Ajay Pal Desawar, said Rajputs had meted out bad treatment to Dalits in Shabirpur (Saharanpur area) recently. Houses and shops of the latter were burnt, he added.

Members of the force said even after 70 years of Independence, the mindset of majority of the people remained the same towards Dalits/scheduled casts. Another member Sanjeev Sahota lamented that because of such inhumane treatment, Dalits were scared in UP and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his team was responsible for this.

“Upper-class people have continued their atrocities against the lower class, but the police have become mute spectators. This is because of the CM’s support. We demand that justice be given to Dalits and the case be brought to the fast track court,” said members. — TNS
