Dieticians converge to discuss importance of protein, fibre intake

LUDHIANA: Renowned dieticians from Mumbai, Bengaluru and Chennai took part in a one-day symposium organised by the Ludhiana Chapter of the Indian Dietetic Association (IDA) for its members on the theme “Protein & Fibre: its role in Satiety”.

Renowned dieticians from Mumbai, Bengaluru and Chennai took part in a one-day symposium organised by the Ludhiana Chapter of the Indian Dietetic Association (IDA) for its members on the theme “Protein & Fibre: its role in Satiety”.

Ritu Sudhakar, president, Ludhiana Chapter of IDA, said due to increased awareness, more people were visiting dieticians to seek help and guidance. So, it was imperative that dieticians keep themselves updated with the latest trends in the field.

Experts spoke on the importance of protein and fibre. They shared the latest information on adequate amounts of these nutrients that are needed to maintain optimum health.

Sheela Krishnaswamy, National President of IDA, briefed members on whatever the IDA was doing to raise the status of dieticians in India. Salome Benjamin, chairperson, Registration Board of IDA, also addressed the members. The third issue of the newsletter ‘Newtrition Update’ was also released and circulated among all IDA members present. It focussed on diabetes and the role of diet in preventing and managing diabetes.

Senior dieticians and nutritionists present on the occasion included Dr Molly Joshi, Dr SK Mann, Dr Veena Murgai, Dr Jaspreet Kaur among others.

The symposium was attended by over 110 dieticians from Ludhiana, Amritsar, Jalandhar and Chandigarh.
