The 19 Punjab Battalion NCC chose the stadium of Guru Nanak Model Senior Secondary School, Doraha, as venue to celebrate International Day of Yoga, with 25 schools of three districts — Moga, Ludhiana and Sangrur — participating in it, here today. A total of 1,128 NCC cadets participated and performed yoga asanas with zeal and vigour.

Yoga instructor Paramjit Singh and school principal DP Thakur performed various yoga asanas, including arm balance, front bend, forward bend, leg stretch, standing asanas, fish pose, abdominal asanas, arm balance, back bend, standing asanas and asanas which may cure various types of diseases. The principal asked the volunteers to make yoga a way of their life as it was highly beneficial for healthy and balanced living.

Cadets shared that it was a wonderful experience for them as they were guided to perform various exercises and asanas. “I had heard about yoga earlier, but today I got an opportunity to practically perform various asanas along with other cadets. I experienced that yoga is definitely a thing to be practiced every day to keep oneself fit and healthy always. Had I not been part of this day, I would have certainly missed something important in my life,” the cadet from one of the schools shared.

Another cadet shared that the pleasant weather and the lush green lawns provided a perfect atmosphere for performing yoga and the instructor too gave us step by step training of various asanas, apart from sharing with us the importance of yoga asanas and their relevance in day to day life.

Vice-President of the school Harpratap Brar said, “If practiced in routine, yoga can make a person stress free and relieves him/her from various types of ailments. It is a type of exercise which acts as a food for the mind and the body. A yogic is always in a positive state of mind as he is healthy in mind and body,” he said.

He said two separate yoga classes were already being conducted on regular basis at Guru Nanak National College, Doraha, in which residents show keen interest and participate in order to avail maximum benefits of yoga classes.
