Ludhiana, August 13

A full-dress rehearsal of district-level Independence Day celebrations was held at Guru Nanak Dev Stadium here today.

According to district authorities, the Health Minister, Brahm Mohindra, will be the chief guest and he would unfurl the national flag.

Panchayats which did not favour stubble burning in their villages would also be honoured on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering after reviewing the full-dress rehearsal of District Independence Day function, the Deputy Commissioner, Pardeep Kumar Agarwal, said the administration has decided to honour these Panchayats as they contributed in keeping the environment clean  and did not allow stubble to be burnt.

Two panchayats of the district which worked the most in this direction including those in village Ramgarh-Bet and Mushkabada would be honoured during the district level function.

Agarwal said this time the Independence Day celebrations will be dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the ‘Quit India Movement’ and will be celebrated as ‘Nav Bharat Sunkalp Parv’. On this day students, youth, self-help groups, beneficiaries of various welfare schemes, and all Indian nationals would pledge to eliminate six adversities (lack of cleanliness, poverty, corruption, terrorism, casteism and racism) to make a ‘New India’.

Agarwal also said from August 15 to October 30, ‘Gram Uday se Bharat Uday Abhiyan’ is also being started. On August 15, the instructions have been issued to hoist the Tricolour flag at the gram level under this campaign.

Agarwal further said during the district level function, chief guest Brahm Mohindra would also launch donor cards to promote organ donation in Punjab. This donor card is being given away in association with an NGO,  called Gift of Life-Organ Donation Awareness Society (GLODUS).

Agrawal directed all the officers to keep this day as national festival and there should be no shortcomings in the preparations. He directed that all the officers and employees must participate in this event. Apart from this, efforts should also be made to make the families as part of this event.
