Ludhiana, August 14

An immigration consultant of Barnala was abducted from Sarabha Nagar by some men to get their money back on August 9.

ADCP Zone 3 Surendra Lamba said victim’s wife Rajinder Kaur on August 11 said her husband Ranjit Singh, alias Manjit Singh, came to Ludhiana but did not return. Though it was not clear whether he went missing or was abducted, she hinted that she received a ransom call.

The victim had taken around Rs15 lakh on the pretext of sending the accused to Canada, but the deal failed. So, to get their money back, the accused abducted him. They even abducted his friend Varinder, who came along Ranjit, and kept them at different locations— Varinder at Sirhind, and Ranjit in Moga.

“We were keeping an eye on them and in between, we got to know that they were going to Sirhind on August 11. We sealed all the areas of the city, Jagraon and Khanna. When the car of the accused was checked near Doraha, the Ranjit tried to escape from the spot. The police caught him and on questioning, it was found that it was the same case of abduction. In the meanwhile, two of the abductors — Gurpreet and Kuldeep — fled from the area. After investigation, two main accused in the crime — Sukhwinder Singh and Vikas Sood of Sirhind — were arrested by the police from Sirhind and Varinder was also released from their confinement,” he said. Four more accused, including Gurpreet Singh, alias Bittu; Kuldeep Singh, alias Peeli; Gurjant Singh, alias Janti and Kulwinder Singh, are yet to be arrested. The police have registered cases against the accused under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint), 342 (wrongful confinement), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (committing of crime with common intention) of the IPC.— TNS
