Ludhiana eves emerge champs

Ludhiana defeated Patiala 5-2 to emerge champions in the girls’ section in the 12th Senior Punjab State Baseball Championship that concluded at Shahi Sports College, Samrala, near here today. Virpal and Ramandeep played the pivot role for the winners by contributing two runs each.

Earlier, in the semifinals, Patiala blanked Gurdaspur 6-0 while Ludhiana beat Ropar 6-1 to storm into the final. In the match to decide the third place, Gurdaspur scraped past Ropar 1-0.

In the matches prior to the knock-out phase, Ferozepur edged out Bathinda 2-0, Amritsar prevailed over Mohali 1-0, Fatehgarh Sahib pipped Moga 2-1, Gurdaspur got the better of Jalandhar 2-1, Sangrur outperformed Fazilka 1-0, Ropar outplayed Barnala 2-0, Ludhiana overpowered Fatehgarh Sahib 2-0, Patiala outclassed Amritsar 3-1, Gurdaspur beat Ferozepur 6-4 and Ropar defeated Sangrur 2-1.— OSC
