A man was arrested by the police for portraying himself as a senior CBI officer. The accused used to extort money from the people on the pretext of getting them jobs. He was identified as Waheguru Singh. The accused had ‘Government of India’ written in front and at the rear of his car. He used to target youths working at Suwidha Centres in the Jalandhar area, apart from other places.
During interrogation, the accused admitted that he had cheated eighth youths by coaxing them into paying him money for getting them government jobs. The accused managed to collect Rs 16 lakh from the victims.
Earlier, the accused was employed and sacked for his misdeeds, said the Commissioner of Police, RN Dhoke. The police have also recovered a fake CBI identity card and a car from his possession. The Haibowal police have registered a case against accused under relevant sections.
