Ludhiana, October 14

The staff of the Municipal Corporation will now have a happy Diwali, as the civic body is set to release the staff salaries for the month of September by October 16-17.

The Class-IV employees who were worried about the celebrations this year are relaxed to know that they will get the salaries before Diwali.

Confirming this, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Jaskiran Singh said the salary for September would be released to all by Monday/Tuesday i.e. October 16/17.

“Though we are struggling with financial crises, we will definitely give salaries to all so that the festival of lights is celebrated in usual manner by all,” he said.

Sources said around 7,000 staff members of the MC, including approximately 5,000 Class-IV employees and others (Class I, II, III), would get the pending salary for the month of September in next three-four days. The salary bills worth about Rs 22 crore were prepared by the Municipal Corporation authorities each month.

One of the officials with the MC said a share was being taken from the GST fund, while the remaining part of salaries was being arranged from here and there.

“The MC staff is facing problems in the absence of regular monthly salaries. However, this problem is being faced by all other departments as there are not sufficient funds with the state treasury. With the imposition of the GST, everything has to be brought back on tracks. The procedure will take some time. As far as the MC is concerned, it is already passing through a rough financial phase as there are no recoveries as per the targets given. In the past many months, the salaries have never been given on time to the staff. But since Diwali is around the corner, the MC will have to make own arrangement to pay salaries,” said the MC official

The news of release of salaries has definitely brought smiles on the faces of all, especially class IV employees, whose survival is difficult without regular salaries.
