Ludhiana, May 4

Thanks to the acute staff crunch in the building branch of the Municipal Corporation, not all buildings under construction in the city can be inspected for bylaw violations on a regular basis. Taking advantage of sorry state of affairs in the building branch, violators continue to have a field day.

In one such attempt, a building was being constructed near SS Industries, Fatehgarh Mohalla, opposite Buddha Nullah in violation of the building bylaws. A complaint was lodged regarding the “illegal” construction to the Zonal Commissioner, Zone A, today. The construction had been going on for a long time without any approval by the Municipal Corporation. The owner was allegedly laying sewers in an illegal manner, which were to be connected with the main sewerage.

Zonal Commissioner Devinder Singh, taking suo motu notice of the complaint, directed the ATP of Zone A, Ankit, to check the building and get the construction stopped in case its status was not clear.

A team visited the site and got construction stopped. The owners of the building were asked to bring the documents to the MC office by tomorrow.  Ankit said: “We will check the documents relating to approval of the building map tomorrow. In case there are discrepancies, the owner will not be allowed to carry on with the construction and action will be taken accordingly”.
