Woman commits suicide

Sahnewal: Tired of "sexual overtures" of her neighbour, a woman of Bilga village committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance on Saturday. Gurbachan Singh, son of Mela Singh of village Bilga, was married to deceased Navdeep Kaur six years ago. They did not have any issue. Gurbachan Singh, on whose statement the case was registered at Sahnewal police station, told the police that on Saturday, he took his father to a doctor while his mother had already gone to attend a bhog ceremony nearby.  In their absence, their neigbour Mandeep Singh forcibly entered the house and began abusing the victim physically and forced her to enter into a physical relationship with him. As Gurbachan Singh returned home, the deceased told her husband about it, who along with his father went to Mandeep's home to complain about his behaviour. In the meanwhile, they got the news that Navdeep committed suicide by consuming something poisonous. Her husband ran home and took her to Sidhu hospital, Doraha, where she survived just for the next two-three hours. The complainant told the police that the deceased had complained about the indecent behavior of Mandeep several times. Investigating Officer Randhir Singh said the body of the deceased had been sent for postmortem examination and the accused was still at large. A case under Section-306 of the IPC has, however, been registered at the Sahnewal police station. OC
