Fourth diarrhoea outbreak was reported from Guru Har Rai Nagar, Jalandhar bypass, today, as the number of patients reported from the area till 5 pm were 150, while 15 others were admitted to various private hospitals.
The woman reportedly died due to diarrhoea, but the department is yet to confirm the cause of death.
Earlier, diarrhoea outbreak was reported from Giaspura, Saholi village and Nanak Nagar near Jalandhar bypass.
The women who died of suspected diarrhoea was ill for the past four days, but the department is still mum over the cause of her death.
“The woman from Guru Har Rai Nagar is suspected of dying from diarrhoea, but it is yet to be confirmed,” said Dr Ramesh, District Epidemiologist.
The house-to-house surveys are also going on and chlorine pallets and ORS packets are also being distributed. Medical camps are also being conducted at dharamshala.
Anita Devi, an area resident, said they have been getting contaminated water supply for the past many days. “It is the same story every year. Water contamination needs to be checked but nothing is done in this regard by the authorities,” she said.
