Now, FIR against drivers for obstructing traffic

LUDHIANA: The police have started registering FIRs against errant drivers along with impounding their vehicles in order to ease the flow of vehicles on city roads and teach violators of traffic norms a lesson.

The police have started registering FIRs against errant drivers along with impounding their vehicles in order to ease the flow of vehicles on city roads and teach violators of traffic norms a lesson. Besides the traffic police, police stations concerned have also been registering such FIRs.

In a latest case, the police booked five persons for parking their vehicles haphazardly on city roads. They were identified as Jatinder Singh of Jamalpur, Sukhwant Singh of Lohara, Paras Makkar of BRS Nagar, Jagraj Singh of Mubarikpur and Lakhveer Singh of Fateh Singh Nagar.

The investigating officer, Head Constable Avinash Rai, said someone had informed the police that a few vehicles were parked haphazardly on the Atam Park road and causing a huge traffic jam. A police team reached the spot immediately and impounded vehicles bearing registration numbers PB10EZ6163 (Maruti), PB10CH2094 (commercial vehicle), PB10EM7000, PB32L0063 (Swift) and HR26BY4786 (Alto K-10).

Apart from this, the police also impounded a private bus (bearing registration No. PB10CX9833), which was stationed on the Atam Park road, and causing a huge traffic jam. The police also registered a case under Section 283 (danger or obstruction in public way or line of navigation) against the driver, Gurdeep Singh, a resident of Sangrur.
