Ludhiana: The CIA Wing 1 of the city police nabbed a drug peddler and recovered 2 kg of opium from this possession. The police also recovered motorcycle from the accused, who was identified as Sonu Khan, alias Sonu, a native of Madya Pradesh. He was presently living in a rented accommodation in Daba Colony. During interrogation, it came to fore that Sonu was in the notorious trade from the past several years. The accused used to bring consignment of drugs from Bihar and sell it to his clients in Ludhiana at higher price. DCP (Investigation) Gagan Ajit Singh said the police remand of the accused would be sought to bust the entire supply network of drugs. TNS

Electronic showroom burgled

Ludhiana: An electronic showroom was burgled by thieves at Sundar Nagar. Showroom owner Arshad Ali, a resident of Muslim Colony, said some unknown persons entered the shop after breaking open the main lock and decamped with 25 LEDs, two mobile phones and some other valuables in the night on October 11. The police are now checking the CCTV cameras of the area to get clues of the accused. A case against unknown persons has been registered. TNS

Married woman goes missing

Ludhiana: A 19-year-old married woman went missing under mysterious circumstances. Complainant Kamo Devi, a resident of EWS Colony, said on October 11, her daughter had gone to the market but did not return home later. She was married to some Jammu-based man. She suspected that some unknown person could have kept her under illegal confinement. The police have launched a manhunt. TNS

Undertrial re-arrested again

Khanna: The Khanna police claimed to have arrested an undertrial who had escaped during a court appearance at Ludhiana about two months ago. The accused, Vipan Arora, a resident of Amloh road, Khanna, was arrested from near the bus stand last Thursday night. Khanna SHO Rajnish Sood said a case under Sections 363,366A and 376 of the IPC was registered against the alleged accused in 2016 and he had escaped from the Ludhiana court premises. The accused had thrashed police personal who had taken him to the court from Ludhiana Jail. The police officials concerned were suspended after the incident. A case was registered under Sections 223 and 224 of the IPC at Ludhiana against the accused. OC

Man gets 10-year-jail

Ludhiana: Additional Sessions Judge Sonia Kinra has convicted Sandip Singh of Eklahi village on the charge of possessing narcotics.He was ordered to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 10 years and a fine of Rs 1 lakh was also imposed on the convict. A case against him was registered on January 22, 2016. According to the prosecution, the police party was patrolling on the railway station platform. On seeing the police party, the accused got perplexed. Following suspicion, the police party stopped him. When he was searched, intoxicating medicines and injections were recovered from his possession. OC
