Ludhiana, August 11

Arun Saggar, a senior citizen, got the shock of his life when his ultrasound report read that his both kidneys were functioning normally. Arun, however, has only one kidney by birth.

Saggar went to Fortis Hospital here on May 30 due to some stomach problem and was asked to get an ultrasound done. The ultrasound report read that both his kidneys were functioning normally.

Taken aback by the report, Arun Saggar asked his son Salin Saggar to get the ultrasound done from another diagnostic centre also. The report from the other diagnostic centre clearly mentioned that left kidney was not seen in the left renal fossa.

“After getting the diagnosis done from another centre, we went to Fortis Hospital and got the ultrasound done again. To our shock, the same report was given to us. When we approached the hospital authorities, they said it was a typing error and later threatened us of dire consequences if we approached the police,” said Saggar. He said they had submitted a complaint with the Commissioner of Police in this regard, but no action had been taken yet. Arun Saggar said, “We consider doctors as God, but this is what doctors are doing with us.”

Vivan Singh Gill, Director, Fortis Hospital, said he was aware of the matter and it could be a case of typing error. “The case of second report could also be the same, as the patient had taken the copy of the earlier report and did not get the test done again. We are conducting an inquiry into the matter. If the doctor on duty is found guilty, strict action will be taken against him,” said Gill.
