Police crack down on gangsters

LUDHIANA: Cracking the whip on gangsters here, the city police have arrested around 11 members of two gangs, namely Ghugga group and Lucky Dhidd group, who had been active here for a long time.

Cracking the whip on gangsters here, the city police have arrested around 11 members of two gangs, namely Ghugga group and Lucky Dhidd group, who had been active here for a long time. Both are rival groups and worked against each other to prove their muscle power.

The Commissioner of Police, RN Dhoke, said both gangs were active in the city and many cases were registered against them at the local police stations.

Ghugga gang

Members of the Ghugga gang nabbed by the police include Vijay, alias Ghugga, a resident of Haibowal; Shiva Bhatti, alias Shiva, a resident of Kila Mohalla; Vishal, alias Deputy, a resident of Dugri; Sukhwinder Singh, alias Sukha, a resident of Haibowal. Another member, Deepak Kumar, has absconded.

Seven cases under the Arms Act have been registered at police stations against Shiva Bhatti and six cases of extortion/Arms Act against Ghugga. One case has been registered against Deputy at the Salemtabri police station.

The gang used to bring arms and weapons from UP at cheap rates and extort money from residents. They lent the money at high rate of interest. They used to contact businessmen and got their work done in an illegal manner.

Two pistols of 32 bore, eight cartridges, one sword, one baseball bat and sharp weapons have been recovered from the gangsters. 

Lucky gang

The arrested members of the gang are Lakhwinder Singh, alias Lucky; Amanpreet Singh, alias Aman; Gurvinder Singh, alias Kannu; Sunny Dhir, alias Bhangi; Deepak, Roop Singh and Paramjit Singh.  Seventy cases of country made and English liquor, two cars, one open Jeep, two swords and two baseball bats were seized from the gang members.  Senior police officials said the police would tighten noose on drug peddlers and gangsters in the days to come. 

Role of cop’s son under scanner

The police have detained Lucky Sood, son of a retired sub-inspector. They suspect that Sood provided shelter to smugglers. Sood is learnt to be close to senior police officials and politicians.

Hi-tech gangster

Police Commissioner RN Dhoke said gangster Lakhwinder Singh, alias Lucky, had got CCTV cameras installed on a street to keep tabs on police movement.
